Venetian Society of Basket Weavers is a group of friendly people with talents from beginner to expert. Here is a place where each member has access to presentations and classes. Both the wild and tame areas surrounding the Florida city of Venice contain many natural materials that have been used in basket weaving for centuries. Palm inflourescence, philodendron sheaths, vines, palm fronds, pine needles and many other sources are abundant and renew themselves continually in the lush growing season. In the Venetian Society of Basket Weavers there are many styles used by the different members. From the strict standards of the Nantucket baskets to the wild abandon of naturals there is a style for everyone. And most of us are willing to try them all.
The purpose of the VSBW is to encourage proficiency and excellence with diverse fibers and forms, while sustaining our growing appreciation for the art of basket weaving; to promote basketry; to share knowledge of methods of weaving and to explore new ones.
We hope you will find these pages informative and motivating. We want to invite you to join our group and learn a new life skill. It's fun! Check us out.
